Part 107 is a knowledge test. It is the legal floor for commercial drone work, and it is where most operators stop. He is a commercial pilot — single- and multi-engine, instrument rated, and a certified flight instructor — and holds an FAA Part 107 remote pilot certificate, with years of experience operating in Chicago's airspace, among the busiest and most tightly controlled in the country.
That background shapes how every job is flown: rigorous preflight planning, airspace and authorization compliance handled before the drone leaves the case, and a safety culture borrowed from the cockpit rather than improvised on site.
It matters here more than most places. Downtown Chicago sits under O'Hare's Class B shelf with Midway's airspace close to the south, and a legal flight in the Loop means LAANC authorization against altitude ceilings that vary across the grid — before accounting for lakefront restrictions and stadium TFRs.
